Mad Dogs and Englishman

Staffordshire Arts

This spring Shire Hall Gallery in Stafford welcomes a wonderful new exhibition – Mad Dogs and Englishmen – from 16 March – 12 May.

Exploring the relationship between man and his dog, this humorous exhibition observes the daily activities that bind Englishmen and their canine companions.

madWith a background in Fine Art, Contemporary Craft and Illustration, Staffordshire based artist Lauren Van Helmond creates a solo show which is multidisciplinary. It brings together an explorative body of work featuring her distinctive style in the form of 3D illustrations, sculptures, prints and ceramics.

In many of her pieces she creates little worlds incorporating a mix of found and re-purposed objects, transfer printing and enamel paint. Evoking ideas of an era gone by, each piece is intricately formed giving a surreal insight into everyday life, turning mundane objects and situations into something creative and amusing.
