Staffordshire young people create brand new theatre musical

Staffordshire Arts

Supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, young people from Staffordshire have been working together to create High Flyers – a brand new musical about the highs and lows of growing up in the modern age.

The participants aged between 10 – 25 were invited to work with the award-winning Borderlines department of New Vic Theatre to create the brand new musical.

What does it mean to be a ‘high flyer’ today? Can everyone truly be successful? At what cost is success achieved? And what does the world look like for those who fear they may be left behind?

Developed, performed and with a script written by the cast of local young people, this production explores what impact younger, growing voices have on the world and questions who, if anyone, is really listening?

The new musical exposes the highs (and lows) of growing up in the modern age.

PUBLIC PERFORMANCES

The culmination of the work will be performed at the New Vic Theatre on Tues 16 July at 4pm and 7:30pm.

PAY WHAT YOU DECIDE

You’re invited to go along and support the young people, many of who have never been involved in theatre before – and you decide how much you pay!

This is a great opportunity to enjoy a new piece of work, created by members of your local community and support them as they take to a stage for the first time – and your ticket price is completely decided by you!

But you do need to book a ticket in advance.  You can do that here

ABOUT NEW VIC BORDERLINES

SUMMARY

New Vic Borderlines is the award-winning initiative using theatre in social contexts. It works regionally, nationally and internationally, and is acknowledged as a national model for the ways theatre can be used to work within the community.

It uses theatre to help people find new and positive ways to understand themselves, their communities and their responsibilities.  It challenges destructive and anti-social behaviour, builds self-awareness and self-worth and develops positive attitudes.

Borderlines works with individuals, groups and communities facing challenges – social and economic disadvantage, young people at risk of offending, adults with learning difficulties, and others at risk of being marginalised.
