The hit comedy movie “The Wedding Singer”, which starred Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore, has been adapted into a full on stage musical and now being staged in Lichfield by the students from South Staffordshire College on 21 & 22 May 2013.

Set in 1985, The Wedding Singer tells the story of rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart, who falls in love with waitress Julia Sullivan.  It has a brilliant 80s vibe about it and is a lot of fun.

The Tony nominated Broadway musical  version of the film that they will be performing follows the same familiar story as the hit comedy movie, but features a knock-out score of super tunes.  The official Staffordshire Arts favourite is “Someday”.

The full soundtrack is available on CD here (Original Broadway Cast).

For the audience this is sure to provide a super evening of toe-tapping fun and a sparking story to enjoy

However for the performing arts students, involved this is an important aspect of their theatre training.  Through its partnership with the Garrick Theatre, South Staffordshire College offers a BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts course, providing students with knowledge, understanding and practical application of performance skills for those wishing to follow a career in Performing Arts.

[blockquote]Our production pays tribute to the original Broadway production, while also giving our Performing Arts students a fantastic opportunity to reach out into the community – Laurie Asher, Head of Performing Arts at South Staffordshire College.[/blockquote]

The show has been cast with Performing Arts students Daniel Roberts, age 17 from Tamworth, stepping into Adam Sandler’s shoes to play Robbie Hart and Jessie Morris, age 20 from Lichfield, co-staring as Julia.
